The story behind Dorothy Alice began long before the business itself.
Owner and founder Dorothy Alice grew up surrounded by creativity, sewing, upholstery, and interior design. At just three years old, she began sewing beside her grandmother’s Singer treadle machine, learning patience, precision, and an appreciation for handmade artistry.
Her mother, an accomplished interior decorator, introduced her to the world of custom interiors, fine fabrics, drapery, cornice boards, and elegant design. Meanwhile, her uncle owned an upholstery shop filled with industrial sewing machines, furniture frames, and traditional upholstery techniques that would later become foundational to her craft.
Today, those influences come together in a workroom where traditional craftsmanship meets elevated modern design.
