Lifeguard® Fabric Cleaning & Care Instructions
Your newly upholstered furniture was created to be enjoyed. And because everyday life occasionally includes spills, muddy paws, sticky fingers, and unexpected accidents, you chose to protect your upholstery fabric with Lifeguard® Fabric Treatment.
Lifeguard transforms standard upholstery fabric into performance fabric by providing lasting resistance to liquids, stains, soil, and odors. This eco-friendly finish contains no harsh chemicals. It penetrates the fabric and bonds directly to its fibers, providing protection designed to last for the life of the fabric.
With proper cleaning and routine care, your beautifully upholstered furniture can remain fresh, comfortable, and inviting for many years to come.
What to Do When a Spill Occurs
Most liquids will bead on the surface of Lifeguard-treated fabric, allowing them to roll away or be quickly blotted before penetrating the fibers.
For the best results, always treat spills and stains promptly.
Light to moderate spills can often be removed using only clean water and a soft, clean cloth. Gently blot the affected area—never rub or scrub aggressively, as this may spread the stain or disturb the fabric’s texture.
Cleaning Tougher Stains
For stains that require additional cleaning:
1. Gently blot away as much excess liquid or residue as possible using a clean, absorbent cloth.
2. Prepare a mild cleaning solution using:
¼ teaspoon of mild enzyme detergent per 1 cup of lukewarm water
Suitable options may include Tide®, Woolite®, or Dawn® dishwashing liquid.
3. Apply the solution gently with a clean sponge or soft-bristle brush, working it into the affected area without oversaturating the fabric.
4. Rinse the area carefully using a clean cloth dampened with plain water. Removing all cleaning-product residue is important, as residue left behind may attract dirt and contribute to future soil buildup.
5. Repeat the process if necessary.
6. Allow the fabric to air-dry completely before using the furniture.
Always begin with the gentlest cleaning method and test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area first.
Routine Upholstery Care
Regular maintenance helps prevent soil buildup and preserves the appearance, texture, and longevity of your upholstery.
● Vacuum your furniture regularly using a clean upholstery attachment to remove dust, lint, pet hair, and surface debris.
● Treat spills, spots, and stains as soon as possible by following the instructions above.
● Periodically deep-clean the upholstery to remove accumulated dirt. When using a professional upholstery cleaner or hot-water extraction system, specify that no additional solvents should be used.
● Avoid saturating the fabric or allowing moisture to penetrate deeply into the cushions or upholstered foundation.
● Protect upholstered furniture from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which may cause fading over time.
A Little Care Goes a Long Way
Lifeguard protection makes caring for your furniture easier, but prompt attention and routine maintenance remain essential. Properly cared-for upholstery can stay beautiful and comfortable for generations—ready for everyday living, special gatherings, and all the moments in between.
